No habla Espanol…

So we survived travel day! I will tell you that my anxiety level reached record levels that day. It’s funny how quickly my adventurous, spontaneous, free spirited ways drift away as I get older. I was literally a scared ball of nerves and felt so out of control. I kept telling SB that had I taken this trip with anyone else…I may have had a mental breakdown! Somehow…that man bring out a patient and level headed Jess. Calm, patience Jess. :)

The next day was Thursday. Jueves. (I do remember some things from High School!) We started the day off with a massage on the beach. It was JUST what my body needed after travel day and we walked out of the tiki huts feeling fannnntastic. We hit the pool asap and had cold drinks in our hands. We were ready to take on the challenges of language barriers and enjoy the beauty that was around us. What we were NOT prepared for…was the sun. Somehow, the idea to dab on a lil sunscreen escaped both of us. We don’t put it on at home…probably won’t need it here, right? Wrong. Only a few short hours later we realized just how burnt we were. Despite our efforts to put on sunscreen after the fact we decided to head inside for a siesta and to get out of the ball of fire.

Just a few hours too late!

Viernes. Needless to say we were sunburned, but we were feeling more and more comfortable with the surroundings at Decameron. We figured out what to eat (and more importantly NOT eat) at the restaurants and found a modest little spot on the beach to spend the day. It was covered by a tiki hut umbrella thing to block any unnecessary sun. We did some exploring in the ocean and took lots of pics. We relaxed and we had some talks that brought our relationship to an even better level. We needed this trip. :) We also needed the day of relaxing to prepare us for the following day…Neal and Jude getting married! On Sabado…we continued our journey…

Beautiful day to be in love

Spring Planting

Spring is here! Everyone is stoked about it including myself. The sunshine is energizing and these thumbs of mine will turn green this weekend with our first herb garden on the patio. Updates/pics soon!

Additionally…I had a conversation with my little guy about ‘planting seeds’ that’s worth keeping, so Ima put it here.

Chase: Mama…do you eat seeds?
Me: Umm…I guess. Like, sunflower seeds and pumpkin seeds. Sure, I eat seeds.
Chase: Do those seeds you eat like…grow inside you?
Me: Oh. No, they don’t babe. Seeds need things like soil and water and sunshine to grow.
Chase: So could you like, eat some soil and drink some water?
Me: Hmm…No, not really. You still wouldn’t have sunlight plus your stomach has all this liquidy acid stuff that smooshes your food all up and breaks it down, and all the good stuff stays in and the bad stuff comes out as poop.
Chase: Oh…But…could you like…eat a seed a grow like…a baby?
Me: Oh hell…NOW I see where this is going…
Me: Umm. Nope. That doesn’t work either.
Me: Please God let that be the end of it. I am trapped in the car with no distraction and I have a feeling like ‘that’ question is coming. He is too young for this question!
Chase: Well….I mean…
Me: Yup…here is comes.
Chase: Where DO babies comes from? How do they like…get in your belly??

Aaaaand boom goes the dynamite. I took a deep breath. I am all about honesty and reality with my child, but he’s pushing 8 and he’s a boy so…I’m embellished just a touch. Told him that babies come from love. Extra love that is…um…’created’ by two people who want more love around them. I also promptly told him that any extra ‘love turned into a baby brother or sister’ would not happen until he was at least 10…or so. Poor guy…being an only child probably sucks.

So that explanation will work for now, but I have a feeling these next few years will fly by and we’ll both be ready for the next talk. For now…we’ll enjoy Spring time and all the extra (self contained) love we have floating around.

Joining the Movement!

The coupon movement that is! For some reason couponing has become like a cult in the last few months with my friends! Coupon parties and entire phone conversations surrounding saving money by clipping. I still haven’t made it to a meeting/class…but my friend Heather gave me the cliffnotes on where to get started! Let me tell you…I was a complete skeptic! (Surprise, surprise) Not that it doesn’t work, but that it would work for me. I try to be a low maintenance person…but at the same time I do like organizing a good grocery list! So I tried it. I bought three AJC’s. I clipped coupons for an hour. I spent 2+ hours preparing the list and researching online. I spent over an hour at the store actually shopping to make sure I was getting what was on sale and the right amounts of each thing (and that was with SB helping!) Over 4 hours went into this trip, and it was a success! For me anyway. :) I’m not sure I will ever be one of those $150 worth of food for $26 bucks kinda people, but I saved 70$ on $200 worth of groceries! PLUS…the awesome websites I’ve learned about helped me buy just what was on sale so we got a TON of food.

It really is true what they say about the rush you feel when saving all that money! I’m hopeful that the time spent on preparation will shorten, and I’ll get into a couponing groove! I’m already looking forward to this Sunday so I can go for another shot at it!

What a Winter Break!

I have had the last week off of work and it’s been B.L.I.S.S. With a sick day AND a snow day prefacing it…it feels like Christmas Break all over again. There is SO much to blog about! SB took care of our Vday weekend with his previous post. It really was a magical weekend for us. It was our first Vday that counts, but I truly hope we continue to have weekends like that for a long, long time. :)

When we got home SB was off for President’s Day. We stayed pretty busy in Chattanooga so it was nice to have him home to rest up and unpack from the trip. We also realized though, that if we were going to try to go car shopping together, today was the day. So off we went to Gossett VW in Alpharetta. I had my sights set on a Jetta…but drove it and just felt….meh. Next was a Passat and as soon as we got 1/2 a mile down the road we look and each other and just knew. This was the car! I’ve had it for a week now and I love it! Old Greg is gone (for $500!) and the new car needs a name. One will find her soon. :)

The rest of the week stayed pretty busy! My break’s usually fly by, but honestly I usually spend them being lazy as ever. I got a LOT done! My new driver’s license is on the way with my maiden name and I found a new doctor in Dunwoody and the whole office is awesome. Wednesday we planned on going to Snow Mountain, but waited too late to realize they are only opened on the weekends. doh! SB had the day off anyway so we enjoyed some family time at home. We went to dinner with SB’s parents for his dad’s bday and had some delicious food at Red Lobster. Our week of getting shit done continued on until the weekend rolled around and BAM! We were hit with some beeaauuutiful weather! Blue skies, slight breeze, sun shining in the 60’s. Chase and I drove around to look at schools earlier in the week and came across an awesome park that is literally around the corner from our apartment.

Saturday morning we got up, I went for a run, then we picked up some lunch and headed to the park! You would have thought they were giving away gold! People were just as in love with the weather as we were and it was packed. As we sat in the sun, ate our lunch, and watched the families, dogs, and our Chase, play and swing….it was just a great way to end the week.

But wait!! We have one more in us!! We were going to Snow Mountain dangit!! After two failed attempts (saturday time slots were sold out), we finally got a time slot at 6pm Sunday night. It seemed late for a school night, but it turned out perfectly! There was a small crowd at first but by 7:00 we were going straight up to the slides and tubing away! I was so nervous for Chase b/c I’m telling you…those things went fast! He loved it though…and I learned again that I need to let go just a little bit and let him be a boy. We have some great pics from the week. Now…if the next 9 weeks would just fly by so we can have Spring Break! :)

Happy Halloween!

Happy Halloween SniperFans! And for us…it was our first! :) We had Chase for the weekend, and we spent it in Dunwoody with some of SniperBen’s family. It was a rainy weekend, so we skipped on trick or treating and went to a festival at Dylan’s (SB’s nephew) school. My little vampire ran around and had a blast, and I got to meet SB’s brother and sister! After the games, we had a dinner at a place that SB and I went to a long time ago and had some fantastic bbq. After putting the little blood sucker to bed, we watched none other than…Halloween! We’ve made it to Halloween H20 and it was the perfect Halloween night movie! It was a fantastic first Halloween. I’m going to miss the Spookytown decor around the apartment (pics coming soon!)…but Thanksgiving and Christmas are on the way! Lots more firsts on the way for the snipers. :)
